Texas is home to some of the top high school football teams in the country. Each year, these teams compete for the state championship and a chance to represent Texas in the national playoffs.
In 2023, the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) has released its top 25 rankings for high school football teams. The rankings are based on a variety of factors, including the team’s record, strength of schedule, and performances against ranked opponents.

Duncanville is the top-ranked team in Texas for the 2023 season. The Panthers are led by quarterback Peyton Bowen, who is a four-star recruit committed to Notre Dame. Bowen has thrown for 1,245 yards and 16 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
DeSoto is the second-ranked team in Texas. The Eagles are led by running back Cedric Baxter Jr., who is a five-star recruit committed to Texas. Baxter Jr. has rushed for 687 yards and 11 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
North Shore is the third-ranked team in Texas. The Mustangs are led by wide receiver Chris Marshall Jr., who is a five-star recruit committed to Georgia. Marshall Jr. has caught 45 passes for 789 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
Westlake is the fourth-ranked team in Texas. The Chaparrals are led by quarterback Cade Klubnik, who is a five-star recruit committed to Clemson. Klubnik has thrown for 1,312 yards and 18 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
Atascocita is the fifth-ranked team in Texas. The Eagles are led by running back Tre Wisner, who is a four-star recruit committed to Oklahoma. Wisner has rushed for 654 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
